The Director General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof. H.D. Ibrahim has charged stakeholders in the cashew industry to intensify efforts towards getting certifications for their farms and their products.

The DG, who was represented by a Deputy Director in the Council, Dr. Olife Ifee, gave the charge at a Cashew Stakeholders Capacity Building on Global Good Agricultural Practices (Global GAP) and Global Good Manufacturing Practices (Global GMP) held in Lokoja.

The DG maintained that cashew is one of the most valuable nuts in the global market and it is one of the strategic cash crops to drive the Nigeria economy.

With the fuel subsidy removal and it’s impact, agriculture is one of the key sectors that will drive the economy. He said that supplying inputs at the right time to farmers will go a long way in improving yields and then stressed on the importance of developing cashew along the value chain.
