ELECTION POSTPONEMENT IS A PLOY TO FRUSTRATE AND DISENFRANCHISE THE ELECTORATE

A cross-section of residents of Benue State Northcentral has expressed outright displeasure over the rescheduling of Saturday’s Governorship and State assembly election insisting that it is a ploy to frustrate and disenfranchise many Nigerians.

Those who spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi the state capital say voter apathy will certainly set in as the current cash squeeze combined with the postponement will inevitably affect people’s interest as well as participation.

Frustration gradually sets in for the electorate who were not even satisfied with the handling of the just concluded presidential and National assembly elections but still kept hope alive until yesterday’s postponement of the Governorship and State assembly election.

Modesty Akuba likes several other residents of the nation’s food basket vents out their concerns over the postponement which will equally adversely affect educational activities.

The few who are still hopeful need the electoral umpire to truly prove their independence.

Of particular concern is the biting economic hardship occasioned by the cashless policy which they felt would ease off after the said election.

With the postponement comes more expectation that the electoral commission will deliver on its earlier pledge to conduct free fair credible elections.
